The current vice president of the Vision Products Group, which created the Vision Pro, Mike Rockwell is being appointed to lead the Siri team by Apple CEO Tim Cook, according to Bloomberg. According to the article, Cook has “lost confidence” in John Giannandrea, the current head of AI, “to execute on product development.” Giannandrea will therefore no longer be in charge of Siri.
Paul Meade, who oversaw hardware engineering for the Vision Pro, will now lead the Vision Products Group team, while Rockwell will report to Craig Federighi, the software director.Due to Siri’s inability to keep up with the rapid advancements of AI and the demands of its users, Apple has been forced to incorporate third-party AI services, such as ChatGPT, into its software.
Recent tests revealed that Siri, which is powered by Apple Intelligence, was unable to accurately respond to basic queries such as “who won the Super Bowl?” Apple also declared this month that it would postpone the release of the more “individualized” Siri until the following year.
